Not since last September’s Covenant show at the Nile have pioneers of this caliber rolled into the Grand Canyon state. Germany’s Project Pitchfork will be returning to Arizona for the first time in years, touring in support of their latest album Black. With over two decades and 14 albums under their belt, Peter Spilles and company have become world-renowned innovators in darkwave and electro, utilizing plaintive musings illustrated across esoteric beats and soundscapes in hits such as “Timekiller” and “Steelrose.” From avant-garde thrills to aggressive dance-floor thrashings, Project Pitchfork have dabbled in genres and experimentations with sophistication that most artists would sell their souls to master. Call them Goth, industrial darkwave, or EBM, there are surprises and twists around every Pitchfork release that keep them an exciting and unpredictable force in dark alternative music.

Canada’s electro smash hit Ayria will be opening in support of her latest album Plastic Makes Perfect. Since 2003, Ayria mastermind Jennifer Parkin has been shaking up contemporary futurepop and EBM through atmospheres introverted and scornful with a female touch. Each album has built upon a foundation of frantic dance beats washed over with lush, sweeping synthesizers both abrasive and soothing. Her voice ranges from razor-sharp whispers in “My Revenge on the World” to timid cries on “Lovely Day.” Her upcoming North American tour with Pitchfork are lovely days to spread influence and gain well-deserved notoriety.

LEAETHER STRIP is the solo-project of Danish electronic industrial artist Claus Larsen. First signed by the German Electro Label Zoth Ommog in 1989, LEAETHER STRIP quickly built a buzz as one of the most exciting emerging acts in Europe in the early 90′s.

After a very successful “Japanese Bodies” 12″, the debut album (“The Pleasure of Penetration” ” released in 1990) instantly established itself as a classic, featuring a punishing rhythm pace and aggressive electronic style with distorted vocals that he has since become renown for and that is often described as “LEAETHER STRIP”s trademark”. The following albums and MCDs allowed LEAETHER STRIP to conquer the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans of electronic industrial music across the world and to become one of the leading acts on the cult Zoth Ommog label. Both “Solitary Confinement” (1992) and “Underneath The Laughter” (1993) albums helped Claus Larsen establishing his position on the music map, reaching top sales in both the European and American electro scenes. While reminding the powerful angst seen in other electro acts such as FRONT 242, SKINNY PUPPY or even NINE INCH NAILS, LEAETHER STRIP rapidly got the reputation to be carrying a deeper message and meaning in his work through his very personal intense music and the sometimes emotional, sometimes political dimension of his lyrics.

After a 5 year break from the music business, from 2000 – 2005, LEAETHER STRIP returned to the scene and since then have been very productive. 2009 Marked the return to the stage, and since then Claus and his partner have been playing shows around the world. LEAETHER STRIP shows are always very energetic and you can expect to hear songs from his whole repertoire.

Coming April 28, the alchemic masters of infectious industrial distortions and chugging guitar mayhem will be shooting their metal-studded stars across the desert sky at 910 Live in Tempe, equipped with an onslaught of hits like “It’s Today” and “Banksters.” With over a decade of touring and recording under their belts, a rabid legion of fans across the world, and a new record titled Ultrawired hot off the cyberpunk iron, Dope Stars Inc. are ultrawired for a descent from space to the dusty ruins of Arizona’s dark alternative crowd.

Dope Stars Inc.’s appetizer will be the airy industrial soundscapes of Ontario’s The Rabid Whole. The band’s sonic dynamics bring to life the fury and the majesty of their juxtaposition of male and female vocals, set against marriages of buzz saw guitars and space-age synth layers. Having performed with the likes of Apoptygma Berzerk, The Birthday Massacre, and Hanzel Und Gretyl, these electro-rockers are already blasting a hole into the foundation of popular industrial with their immersive, futuristic arsenal. The Rabid Whole released a new album last year titled Refuge, ensuring surprises and fresh possibilities for the night.
